The Make It a Better Life Foundation was founded in 1998 due to its founder's personal experience of witnessing a large number of patients suffering from the scourge of domestic violence in her workplace. This evil affects all countries in the world, some more than others, but it always presents itself in all socio-familial spheres, resulting in the production of many ills for everyone.
It is a situation that affects not only the person involved, but also the entire social sphere, such as the home, the community, and the entire social environment where domestic violence occurs.
The founder, Dr. Lourdes Chalas, focused on being an entity that contributes to the reduction of this social evil. She sees the opportunity to make this social good project a reality in the United States of North America and, in 2021, she takes the necessary steps to establish a foundation that will achieve this social goal.
Undoubtedly aware that in this country, the same horizon of domestic violence can be seen, but with more concrete and defined legal structures that provide what is necessary to address this issue. It is a universal problem that affects women everywhere, especially those who have grown up experiencing violence.
Unfortunately, violence is learned, so those who grow up in it have a high rate of repeating it. In 80% of cases, those involved cannot escape this cycle of violence on their own; the abuser keeps them in a cycle of terror that can end in dependence and death.
Considering the latent reality that violence can involve financial, physical, sexual, psychological, and even occupational control. In addition to an emotional imbalance, this is true if those affected do not leave the place where the act of violence takes place.
In this sense, it is understood that it is difficult to escape the perpetrator of the act and that the most affected sectors are those with fewer resources and without education; So, aware that to escape that environment, it is necessary to give them a safe place where they can start over and provide job training to help them become independent.
Make It Better Life was created to address these needs, aiming to help victims of domestic violence by providing them with a place of refuge, allowing them to escape from this murky environment, educating them, and preparing them intellectually and emotionally to be strong.
The foundation aims to develop programs that provide financial independence skills, as well as create an environment of safety and hope for families, especially children in that family environment. This is the social reason for our existence, and we believe that the goals set will be achieved, helping everyone, regardless of race, color, nationality, religion, sex, or political ideology.
